Thank-you!

With the help of a generous grant from Central City Foundation and the outpouring of support we have received in memory of our good friend, Cory Monteith, we are thrilled to report that we have installed Air Conditioning at Project Limelight!  The much-needed upgrade was sponsored in part by the generous folks at BC Comfort, and we are very grateful to everyone who helped make this possible. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Our deepest thanks to Jennifer Johnstone, the staff, and Board of Directors at Central City Foundation, and to the amazing team at BC Comfort.

A very special thank-you to Cory’s incredible supporters and fans for keeping us in their hearts, during this incredibly difficult time.  You’ve been in our thoughts as well.  Please know that we are inspired by your generosity and dedication to keeping Project Limelight as part of Cory’s legacy.  You truly are amazing!  Because of you, we are able to provide a comfortable environment for the Limelight participants to eat, play, rehearse, and build a creative community.  You are helping make dreams come true!

We will continue to accept donations in Cory’s memory, and proceeds from the Cory Monteith Memorial Fund will support our free ongoing performing arts program and our food security program, which provides nutritious meals and snacks to participants.

About Project Limelight Society:

Project Limelight is a free performing arts program for young people living in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.  Participants are taught acting, singing, dancing, clowning, creative writing, voice work, movement, improvisation and more. Mentorship is the cornerstone to the success of Project Limelight, and the young performers are instructed and inspired by professional artists. Children, ages 8 to 15 rehearse a full-length theatrical production for 3 months, leading up to a final performance on a professional stage, giving participants the opportunity to showcase everything they have accomplished. Project Limelight also provides healthy meals and snacks to Limelight participants through the generous support of Strathcona Community Centre and East of Main Cafe. In addition to supplying meals, all profits from East of Main Cafe are donated to Project Limelight Society.

Interested in being part of Project Limelight Season 2?

Project Limelight is a free performing arts program for kids living in and around the Downtown Eastside, Strathcona and Mount Pleasant.

We have a few spots left for participants between the ages of 8 and 15.

Project Limelight will be running from October 6th to early February and will operate 2 days a week on Wednesdays (3:30 pm – 5:45 pm) and Saturdays (12:00 pm – 4:00 pm). We will expand to a 3 day program in January. There is a possibility of rehearsals over the Christmas holiday, but that will be decided over the next few weeks.

We will be performing a short presentation at The Heart of The City Festival in late October and a full length production in early February. There may be other performing opportunities as well.

Rehearsals and workshops will be held at Strathcona Community Centre and the Project Limelight workshop space (above East of Main Cafe). Transportation will be provided from schools on Wednesdays, but not on Saturdays.

We will interview all candidates and their parent or guardian, and we only have a couple spaces remaining. As always, our criteria for being involved is enthusiasm and commitment. For more information, visit our website at www.projectlimelightsociety.org.

Contact us by email info@projectlimelightsociety.org if you would like to be involved. No phone calls, please.
